Situated in the pretty market town of Brampton, near Carlisle, Cumbria, Garth House is a Grade II listed building, dating back to the 1830’s. It is believed that Charles III once visited the property during a tour of England and gifted the owners plants for their garden. It is also believed that the head gardener from Highgrove was sent to help the owners establish a hedge in the grounds.

The current owners wanted to develop the site to create two new luxury holiday homes, Peel Castle and Castle steads. Peel Castle comes complete with three bedrooms across three floors as well as a rooftop gin terrace complete with a castle parapet.

The material had to be locally sourced so, working in partnership with the owners, we chose to do this in our very own Bowscar Red Lazonby sandstone. The stone facing of this castle was a very specific product and the client had each stone sandblasted to give the desired effect. The masonry was also created using Lazonby sandstone and the level of detail was very specific, from cutting simple heads, cills, arches and the key feature – the parapet, to create the castle effect.
