Our Natural Stone

Taken from our five quarry sites, our selection of natural stone is some of the best found in the UK, from fine to course grain sandstone and limestone and suitable for a range of construction and landscaping uses including walling, paving, masonry and cladding.

Bowscar Red Lazonby

Bowscar Red is a sandstone of the Permian age. It is a fine to medium-grained stone, pale red or dark pink in colour which has a slight sparkle due to the presence of quartz grains throughout. This block is suitable for use in most aspects of construction including paving, walling, masonry and cladding.

Coursehill

Fine-grained and pale red/brown in colour, Coursehill is a fine-grained sandstone from the Triassic period. It’s slightly calcareous in nature which gives it a more dense texture. Coursehill is suitable for use in most aspects of construction including paving, walling, masonry and cladding.

Doddington

Doddington sandstone is from the fell sandstone group of the carboniferous limestone. It is a fine to medium-grained stone, speckled, light to deep purplish pink in colour with occasional rust-coloured markings. It is suitable for use in most aspects of construction including paving, walling, masonry and cladding.

Lambhill

A fine-grained and textured sandstone, Lambhill Buff is brown in colour with a silver heart. Lambhill should be suitable for use in construction including paving, walling, masonry and cladding.

Corncockle

The Permian Sandstone is extracted from the Corncockle quarry on the outskirts of Dumfries, Scotland. It’s medium-grained in texture, free of clay holes and other impurities and is characterised by its red or pink colouring. The red sandstone from this quarry is considered one of the finest found.

Orton Scar

A fine-grained stone from the Carboniferous age. It is dense and easily takes a polish. There is some variation in the stone with a range of grey/brown shades. Orton Scar Limestone is suitable for use in most aspects of construction including flooring, paving, walling and monumental masonry.

Salterwath Limestone

A fine-grained limestone of early Carboniferous age. Dark blue when split for walling pale grey when used for cladding. It is dense and easily takes a polish which gives a rich chocolate brown shade. Salterwath Limestone is suitable for use in most aspects of construction including flooring, paving and masonry.

St Bees Red

St Bees is from the new red sandstone of the Triassic age. It is a fine-grained stone dull red in colour. With both a fine grain and tight bedding, it is suitable for all aspects of masonry walling and profiling work. It is dull red in colour with a variation of dark reds running through the stone.

Wattscliffe

Wattscliffe Gritstone is a medium-grained and uniformly lilac/grey colour with very occasional buff/white intrusions. It is essentially a freestone and therefore almost equally durable in most common masonry applications whichever way its natural bed is laid.

Bearl Sandstone

Bearl Sandstone is a durable, medium- to coarse-grained sandstone.. It’s typically distinctive light buff. creamy / white colour with the occasional grey streaks running throughout.

Northumberland Buff

Northumberland Sandstone is a durable, medium- to coarse-grained sandstone.. It’s typically distinctive honey yellow buff with black streaks running throughout giving it its nickname “stripey buff”

Appleton Yorkstone

With a blue/buff colouration, Appleton is extremely durable and hardwearing. It is available for paving, kerb and tactile applications, as well as bespoke specialised masonry items.

Scotch Buff

Scotch Buff is medium grained, buff coloured sandstone with varying degrees of darker bed markings. The stone derives its name from the fact that the quarry is situated only a mile or so from Scotch Corner on the A1. The stone has excellent weathering capabilities and is ideally suited for all building purposes. There are large reserves with long term planning consent.

Kings Quarry

Kings Quarry is a medium-grained and uniformly Purple/Burgundy colour with very occasional red/white intrusions. It is essentially a freestone and therefore almost equally durable in most common masonry applications.

Longridge Sandstone

Longridge Stone is a durable, medium- to coarse-grained millstone grit. It’s typically light buff in colour, marked with swirls of golden brown and orange that give it a distinctive, naturally varied look. In some cases, oxidation may occur on the surface, resulting in darker patches or discolouration.

Howley Park

Howley Park boasts the largest mineral reserve in West Yorkshire and offers a high quality fine to medium grained sandstone. Predominantly buff/grey in colour, this versatile material is well suited to a wide range of applications including paving, walling, masonry and carving. Its consistent texture and natural tonal variation make it suitable for both contemporary and traditional architectural schemes. Typical applications include paving, walling, masonry and carving and detailed stonework.

Peak Moore Sandstone

Peak Moor is a fine to medium grained sandstone, predominantly buff in colour with occasional pink markings and / or brown iron intrusions. It is essentially a free stone and therefore almost equally durable in most common masonry applications, whichever way it’s natural bed is laid. Peak Moor Sandstone is highly sought after by architects nationwide.
