A Complete Renovation Using Locally Quarried Lazonby Sandstone
Project Overview
Flakebridge Shooting Estate in Cumbria recently underwent an extensive renovation project, transforming the accommodation into a collection of beautiful, high-quality lodges designed to provide comfortable and characterful accommodation for shooters during the season.
As part of the renovation, we were proud to supply all of the Lazonby Sandstone required throughout the project, providing a consistent and authentic natural stone finish that complements the surrounding Cumbrian landscape.
Lazonby Sandstone
The stone supplied for the project was Lazonby Sandstone, quarried locally in Cumbria from our own quarry. Lazonby Sandstone is a distinctive natural stone, valued for its warm, natural colouring, durability and versatility.
Quarried from the historic Lazonby area, the stone has a strong connection to the local landscape and is particularly well suited to traditional and rural developments. Its natural character allows it to blend seamlessly into its surroundings while providing a high-quality, long-lasting finish.
Having our own quarry gives us complete control over the stone supply, from extraction through to processing and delivery. This allows us to provide a consistent product throughout a project while maintaining the natural character that makes Lazonby Sandstone unique.
The Project
The renovation at Flakebridge Shooting Estate was a significant transformation, with the existing accommodation being completely renovated and brought up to a high standard to create beautiful lodges for shooters staying at the estate during the shooting season.
The use of natural Lazonby Sandstone throughout the project helped retain the traditional character of the estate while giving the renovated lodges a fresh, high-quality appearance.
From the initial supply through to completion, the project required careful coordination to ensure the correct quantities and consistent stone were available throughout the renovation.
The Result
The completed lodges combine traditional Cumbrian character with modern comfort, creating attractive accommodation that sits naturally within the surrounding estate.
We are particularly pleased to have supplied the Lazonby Sandstone for the entire project. Using stone directly from our own quarry meant the project could benefit from a genuinely local material, while ensuring consistency and quality across the development.
A great example of how locally quarried natural stone can bring together traditional character, modern renovation and the surrounding Cumbrian landscape.
